Immature Stages of Olethreutidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Olethreutidae is being acquired.  However, Bevis (1923) studied Coccathera spissana Zell., an enemy of Ceroplastes cgbarium Ckll. in South Africa.  It appeared probable that the larvae are predaceous on the eggs in the chamber under the female=s body.  A large proportion of scales examined showed 1-3 emergence holes in the dorsum.  Mature larvae measure 4.5 mm long.  The empty pupal case remains partly extended from the emergence hole.
